In August 2024, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth hosted a ceremony to unveil the opening of a newly renovated third-floor wing to host labor, delivery, and mother-baby units. CHRISTUS is a Catholic healing ministry offering quality and innovative healthcare services.
Funded by the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation, the labor and delivery unit will have 19 private delivery rooms, each including new bathrooms, birthing beds, and a cableless fetal monitoring system. In the mother-baby unit, 34 recovery units added new bathrooms, new flooring, fresh paint, and an advanced monitoring system.
According to Britni Hidalgo, Clinical Director of Labor and Delivery for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, the rooms will add more comfort with the updates and new technologies. Renovations also included improvements to seven obstetrics emergency and surgery rooms for complex pregnancies and planned cesarean surgeries. Teri Hawthorne, Executive Director of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation, said the project could not have been possible without the assistance of Southeast Texas community donors.
