CHRISTUS Health Bridging Healthcare Gaps in East Texas

broken image

In a multifaceted approach to addressing healthcare disparities, CHRISTUS Health has undertaken two groundbreaking initiatives to enhance medical access and education in East Texas.

Firstly, in a strategic partnership with Texas A&M University School of Medicine, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Sulphur Springs is spearheading a rural health initiative. This collaboration exposes medical students to the challenges and opportunities of practicing medicine in rural areas. By hosting one-week or two-week rotations at the hospital and clinics, students gain firsthand experience and develop a passion for rural healthcare. With 25 counties already part of the program, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact on addressing the shortage of healthcare providers in rural regions.

Simultaneously, CHRISTUS Health's Mobile Athletic Training Room (MATR) initiative promotes access to sports medicine. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including a mini mobile digital X-ray system, MATR travels to athletic venues across East Texas. Operated by athletic trainers from CHRISTUS Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, MATR provides expedited medical care to injured athletes at no cost. By bringing healthcare directly to the community, MATR exemplifies CHRISTUS Health's commitment to promoting health and wellness in East Texas.
